Very sad indeed. He has been looking a bit shaky of late.

Grown up with him over the years pointing the way in the skies.


Edit. And he was involved with Apollo to some degree. What a life.

The Soviets used his maps of the Moon to compare their pictures of the far side to so they could properly map it out from the Luna 3 images.

A real character, he will be sorely missed. My own interest in Astronomy was kindled by seeing him on The Sky At Night and reading his books.

He was a crusty old cove. A real eccentric with some oddball political views. But he was a peerless astronomer.

Of course, he had to be silenced because he knew the truth.

Ah, thought it might be but I am easily confused.

Some of the vitriol after Neil's passing away was amazing. You are probably right here as well going on what is out and about in the usual places.

A sad day. He probably did more to raise awareness of science and astronomy than most have ever dreamed of, and significant substantive contributions too.
