If you weren't an astronaut, what would you be?
Captain Pete: a cosmonaut

Yikes! Hope Senator McCarthy didn't hear that.

That was great! Thanks for sharing it ICR.
It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth.
I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth.
I didn't feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.

I miss Pete. He was my favorite astronaut.

<hb mode> That can't be the real Conrad, there's no profanity!</hb mode>

Nice find ICR, do you know when and what was that originally published in?

He said 8 years between his Skylab flight and the shuttle. His flight was in '73, the shuttle was supposed to launch in '79, but didn't launch until '81, so I'm guessing sometime after the first shuttle actually launched.
