I liked it better when you had the font 78%/130% (if that's what I can gather from the commented out css code).
Is there a chance of a "compact" theme?

Yeah, I can do that.
Just out of curiosity, what is your screen resolution? I found the font size too small before at my resolution of 1920x1080, but I realize most people don't have high resolution monitors.
-
I'm on a full HD monitor and it's looking a bit big to me too.
-
My main working screen is 1920x1200. It's running Linux though and font sizing is sometimes a little odd on some sites.
My Windows 7 laptop is 1920x1080.
I'm running Chrome (with the default "Medium" font size, zoom 100%) or Firefox (with its default font settings).
-
I've reduced the font size a bit (from 100% to 90%). Is that better?
-
I think you have the size at 95% at the moment, BTW.
You probably shouldn't be trying to fit it to my preference, but ... anything between 85% and 90% works ok for me on my browsers & screens.
However, the issue for me after that is the .inner class "min-height" setting of 200px. With that setting I can only fit about three one-line messages on a screen.
-
I'd have to see what the possibilities are before saying which is best, but I think this is still too big.
-
I made the font a bit smaller. How's that?
It's bordering on being too small to read on my computer now (but it could be my eyes too).
-
That is getting better for me. It's rendering the same size as "thespacerace" forum for me now. It was quite a bit bigger two steps ago. How do the two sites compare on your screen?
The min-height reduction is better too (although it could dropped completely if you want my vote).
Perhaps you could try an experiment setting the font-size to an explicit 14px (like thespacerace forum) rather than using 90% of the browser's default that you are currently using? I think they should be the same (well 87.5% should equal 14px).
Thanks for having a fiddle. It might turn out that having a variety of themes could work for different users on different machine/screen combinations.

The current text size looks good to me (19" monitor at 1440x900 resolution).

They're pretty close for me now too. TheSpaceRace.com is a bit smaller and I usually end up zooming in on it.

The reason I added the min-height was because I was worried that short posts would be too difficult to see if they are sandwiched between two longer posts. But it's a minor concern so I can probably do without it.

Yeah, I'll give that a try when I work on the template this weekend.

Good idea, I'll probably do that once I'm happy with the default template.
