An astronomical fake
« on: January 27, 2016, 06:13:48 AM »
Over the years, there have been many images published by amateur astronomers of the ISS, including ones of it passing across the face of the sun or moon.  A few days ago an image of the ISS passing Saturn went viral, even getting on the APOD website, which is hosted by NASA.

However, the amateur astronomy community were quick to express doubts, as shown by this link:

After a few days, the author of the picture admitted it was a composite and not the real one he initially claimed.  APOD have taken it down and put a nice picture of a galaxy in its place.

HBs who think that the astronomy community could be easily fooled by NASA should pause to consider.

At least he had the balls to admit image fakery.

At least he had the balls to admit image fakery.

Only after his claim had been thoroughly ripped apart. His first acknowledgement was wishy-washy and didn't contain an apology. He's also been found to have faked other videos and images, so he certainly appears to be deceitful.
