Title: John Young (1930 - 2018)
Post by: LunarOrbit on January 06, 2018, 12:43:33 PM
Apparently John Young died yesterday.

He was always one of the most interesting of the astronauts to me, having flown on Gemini, Apollo, and Space Shuttle missions.

The fact that he flew STS-1 makes him one of the bravest people I've ever heard of.

So who's left?

Of those who landed on the Moon, Aldrin, Bean, Scott, Duke, Schmitt.

And its an indictment on us (humans) that we have not retruned.

Bloody hell... I hope someone sets foot on the moon again before the last of the remaining men die.

Thank you, John Young, for your sense of adventure and for allowing us to, in a way, tag along, for your intelligence, your down-to-earth drawl, and above all, your incredible sense of humour.

It saddens/angers me to think that these men, after all their brave and dedicated service to expanding the horizons of humanity, must at long last close their eyes on a world that shows so little inclination to build on their accomplishments.
