Had something turn up in the post today
Andy Saunders' Apollo Remastered
-
I just got my copy of Apollo Outfitters, about the design and development of the Apollo space suits. Looks very impressive at first glance.
-
Also ordered a copy of The NASA Archives. 60 Years in Space. 40th Ed, part of the package deal. Will see what it's like when it turns up but claims to have some concept sketches and such, which I love, seeing how designs change from original ideas to actual reality.
Oh.....and for the more conspiratorial tone, Apollo Remastered includes a copy of.............. the C-rock photo!!!! Alas, it's been cropped to only focus on the astronaut and the rover, so close ;D A few have been cropped, to provide more focus on things like that, but there's also a few panorama's joined together, with at least one fold out I've found so far.

"Never Panic Early" by Fred Haise. Excellent read with some aspects I hadn't known. Definitely recommended.
Also "Tough & Competent" by Gene Kranz. A look behind NASA management, and full of helpful information about being a leader.

Definitely a very good book

Speaking of books, had a hoax 'book' pop into my recommended (while ordering Outfitters, that looks interesting); Derek K Willis' Faking Apollo: Fifty Years of Secrecy.
I've seen a thread here where Derek got involved at one point, words were slung, feelings hurt and tails tucked, but I was wondering if anyone has looked at his 'work' yet? Looks like a $5 eBook, although the sample you can read just reminds me of Sibrels Moon Man, has the feel of a poor spy drama with the author in the main role.

Is that 'Lunar Outfitters' that is available on Amazon?

New loot!
A remastered copy of the Apollo 11 flight plan, and SCF's Apollo 15

Quick opinion all;
I've got what looks to be either a first print or very early print of the Apollo 16 PSR. I've been in contact with Charlie Duke (via the website, so probably not Duke directly but a PA or such), and he has agreed to sign it if I get it to him.
My main concern is I have to ship it from Aus to the States and back, and now I'm all, 'do I want to risk my prize and joy'?
I think I've pretty much decided already, guess I'm just looking for some confirmation that I should risk it for this biscuit.

Well, I'd just say that you live in a time when it is still possible to get an autograph from one of the original moon walkers, and that time is not going to last forever. So it might be worth the risk... but I've never tried to send mail between Australia and the US and back again.
-
I have my original Apollo 15 PSR signed by Al Worden (which was amusing because the people in front had him sign their modern reprint ;D ), and my Apollo 10 photography report signed by Tom Stafford. It makes them so much cooler!
-
Charlie Duke signed my Apollo 16 PSR!

That's awesome!

That's awesome!
I can't say I've ever had a single book on my shelf that has cost me over $500 (initial purchase, signing cost, shipping to the US and back), good thing I'm a responsible adult (couldn't even type that with a straight face ;D ) with disposable income.
On the side, it's a pity Najak 'aint here no more, he was complaining about Duke's inability to pick up a hammer at one point, that he should have just bent over. In my letter to Duke, I asked about this very thing, his reply being you couldn't bend at the waist, so if you dropped something you usually got the tongs to pick it up. Or how it happens in the footage.

Well, he WOULD say that, wouldn't he? What with being a paid NASA shill and part of the Big Lie....

I like scrolling through some of the old threads, when they remind me of something I meant to search out. On that note;
New book!!
"The Moon as Viewed by Lunar Orbiter'
Has a nice section at the beginning about the equipment used too.
Which reminds me, what was it with NASA and green books? So many books from that time period seem to have green covering.
