I managed to fat finger twice in the space of a few minutes. It was the worse user misoperation that can occur in anything ever: I went to press pause/play and instead pressed one of the skip buttons that flank it.
This made me think of an improvement to the UI that can resolve this: require that skip buttons, whose inadvertent pressing can be a disaster for the world, require a sustained press of a second. This doesn't just give you that extra fraction of a second to realise your finger is landing wrong, it differentiates the action needed to operate the different buttons. So even if you don't notice your finger is landing wrong, you won't misoperate because the tap you were intending to do won't operate the wrong button.
This concept is used widely. Many buttons in a cockpit are differentiates to prevent the pilot from mistakenly operating a neighbour. We need this applied to media player UI too.
