Can anyone help identify this engine?
« on: December 10, 2012, 09:37:17 PM »
The Kalamazoo Air Zoo east campus has a couple of rocket engines on display. One is a Rocketdyne F1 test article. The other is pictured here. There's no information, just a tag that says "On Loan From NASM".  It is a Rocketdyne product, as shown by the data plate on it, but that's all I got.

Here's a picture of the data plate and the tag. I tried to get the best relief on the data plate, but I wasn't using my digital SLR for these, just the camera phone.

Looks like a Rocketdyne A-7, used in the Mercury Redstone.

eta: It's possible it's an earlier A-5 or A-6, but I haven't found any usable pictures for comparison on those, plus I'd think the NASM would be more likely to have something related to human flight than a missile engine.
