But if there were one single marking of the conspiracy theorist versus the person with an honest interest, I'd say it's the reluctance to exactly state what the person is proposing. Solon was, I think, working for a gotcha moment, carefully avoiding any of the requests for him to explain, for example, why people would have lied about the nature of light for centuries. I think anyone with an honest new (or mistaken) idea would have been much more upfront about it.
