Ascent stage initial acceleration
« on: November 21, 2024, 06:25:11 PM »
I have been conversing with a person, who claims the initial acceleration of the A17 ascent stage was about 3 times higher than expected from the numbers for mass, thrust and gravity.

I plugged the numbers for the ascent stage in, found an acceleration of

16kN, 2445 kg spacecraft plus 2376 kg ascent fuel, plus two astronauts, and a bag of samples about 250 kg.

This gives a= f/m -> a = 16.000 N / 5071 kg -> a = 3.155 m/s^2 minus lunar gravity of 1.62 m/s^2 ->1,535 m/^2

He claims his calculations, based on the TV-transmission from the LRV, gives an initial acceleration of 3.74 m/s^2. I have pointed out what I think is a flaw in his idea, namely the ascent engine firing into the descent stage, and some pressure between the two parts would give the ascent stage a significant push for the first fraction of a second.

Now he even claims A16's ascent stage DEcelerated after it launched.

There was an old thread on this topic;
https://apollohoax.net/forum/index.php?topic=655.0

I'd love if he could get his account approved, I think BK would benefit from some of the people's knowledge and experience here, rather than Rasa's FB group.

That is exactly the information I was looking for. Had totally forgotten I was in that thread too.

I am here now, thank you for approving me.

I am going to start a new thread on this, so that it starts out on the right foot, without chatter about approving me, etc.  I'll present my proof/case, and the invite the waves of scrutiny.

Allen, I'm feeling quite let down.  You set my expectations high for this site, and the qualifications of those who will respond.   So far, I'm only getting responses from people who:

1. Post "flawed videos" (e.g. Collins first video) without stating "the flaws" (i.e. it's ok to post flawed videos, if you note these flaws - but this guy was pretending it's "true/fact", when Collins himself says it's not).

2. Don't understand basic physics or scientific logic.

Please summon the smart guys.   I'll give them a run for their money.  I've only presented a fraction of what I am prepared to post, but figured there's enough threads going here already.  So far-- I've received ZERO scientifically legitimate rebuttals.

If we could get the truly smart people to respond -- the Apollo Faith would falter.    The truly smart guys change their stances when their current beliefs involve "Breaking Physics" multiple times, as well as highlighting the mountains of things that are simply "Not Bloody Likely" associated with these beliefs.   The spearhead of my attack, is the "Breaking of Physics" as there are enough of these to knock things loose.

I challenge them to a duel. :)

If you continue to insult the other members of the forum your time here will be short. My patience for arrogant people is at historically low levels. I will only tolerate you for as long as the other members see value in conversing with you, so I would suggest that you start showing them more respect.
It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth.
I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth.
I didn't feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.

Will do.  Thanks again for hosting this forum.  I imagine the members here on this "hoax sub-forum" would prefer heated debate to an echo chamber, as do I.
