Evidence of sockpuppetry
« on: February 26, 2012, 10:25:30 AM »
I posted on JREF regarding the sockpuppetry of Patrick1000/fatfreddy. I received a PM from a mod saying that they took sockpuppetry very seriously, and they had found no evidence that Patrick100/fatfreddy were the same person.

Is there one or two posts where Patricks sockpuppetry can be demonstrated?

Thanks....

The only thing we really have to go on is the similarity of the claims he makes using these multiple identities.

The problem is that he uses proxy servers, so his IP address is different every time he creates a new identity. It makes it difficult to determine if it is really him, or just someone who happens to agree with him. I know it's hard to believe that it's even possible for anyone to agree with him, but I need to be reasonably certain it's him before I'll ban him.

So my point is that I can sort of understand the reluctance other forum moderators feel when it comes to declaring someone a sock puppet. It comes down to judging whether the posting styles are similar enough or not, and that isn't easy. I've already made the mistake of banning someone who I thought was a sock puppet simply because of the way they quoted Fattydash, and it's not the kind of mistake I want to make again.

No, he's definitely the same poster, and people have been pointing this out freely on the moderated thread.  But it's irrelevant because he's only posted under one handle on JREF.  I don't think sock-puppetry on other forums counts.

That's what the dispute was about....he has posted as both Patrick1000, and fatfreddy on the JREF.

Fatfreddy is clearly "cosmic" Dave. Looking at his posts you can see that Patrick is nothing like him.

Sorry, I screwed up.  I was thinking of fattydash, not FatFreddy88 (aka, DavidC, rocky, etc.)

No, I am quite sure FF88 and Patrick1000/fattydash/etc. are not the same poster.  The former is a full-fledged crackpot, but really seems to believe his paranoid fantasy.  The latter is simply a troll who craves attention from grown-ups.

Yes, I got a little confused between fattydash and FatFreddy88 at first, but I think the "feel" of them is different (plus, I believe FF88 has been around JREF for some time).

I don't think Patrick is a troll in the sense that he is making things up *solely* for attention. I think he likes the fantasy of being a top investigator/doctor/bicyclist/what's next, and if he knows, deep down, that he's not one, he tells himself he's "as good as they are, even if I don't have the degree". His ego is such that he really believes that he has found proof of fraud, even if he knows he plays fast and loose with his evidence and credentials. It's fascinating, and a little sad.

A very educational thread...too bad Patrick didn't choose to benefit from any of it.

He did link to a youtube video, which sure appears to have been made by him. I watched it just the other day, talk about an angry kid! He certainly isn't a doctor, nor any other profession, and really has serious anger issues.

It's obvious he is way too smart to have anyone try to teach him anything...  :(  But, again, a very educational thread over there.
