Looks intriguing....

Once, just once, could we have a science-fiction movie about space exploration that isn't just a horror movie in disguise where the explorers are dispatched one-by-one in horrific fashion by inimical aliens.

Prometheius, was such a disappointment... the premise was excellent and the story started superbly then descended into just another formulaic shock-horror kill-fest, a sort of futuristic "Friday the 13th".
If you're not a scientist but you think you've destroyed the foundation of a vast scientific edifice with 10 minutes of Googling, you might want to consider the possibility that you're wrong.

Or inimical computers. So even 2001 was arguably in this category.

The problem is that drama has to be, well, dramatic. There has to be a conflict of some sort or people just won't watch.

But if you're going to create a movie about humans exploring Europa for signs of life, what other types of story could you do? If there's no life there it isn't much of a story. Likewise if it's single-cell creatures. There's no realistic prospect it'd be intelligent life or aliens from Somewhere Else. Pretty much all you're left with is complex life which sees humans as Food.

Does someone have a link to that satirical article of plots you'd never see on "Star Trek" - the one including something like "The crew of the 'Enterprise' visit a planet where everything is pretty much as it seems on first inspection"?

Or where Kirk meets a beautiful young woman but remains totally professional because it seems she has a boyfriend?
